Merry Christmas from the RBSA: looking ahead to 2018

It’s been a busy year at the RBSA and we’d like to thank everyone who visited our gallery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

A packed programme of events saw us stage major prize exhibitions attracting entries from artists with national and international followings.

The biennial Portrait Prize proved extremely popular, as did our Metropolis Exhibition celebrating urban life.

We returned to a local theme with our Around the Jewellery Quarter Exhibition in October, and brought together artists across a range of media for our Equivalent 8 and Birmingham Art Circle and Shapeshifters shows.

Our partnership with the Paul Mellon Centre made it possible to host one of the most important retrospectives featuring groundbreaking post-war master of abstraction, William Gear in November.

This was also the month when we staged our first ever Charity Auction, raising more than £8,000 for the Gallery, and donating ticket proceeds to Autistica.

Our ever-popular programme of workshops helped us bring an appreciation of the visual arts to as wide an audience as possible. We also achieve this through free entry to all of our exhibitions, enabling art lovers to discover the highest standard of contemporary art across a range of media.

As ever, we sought to champion local makers, craftspeople and jewellers in our ground floor exhibitions, and were also able to showcase individual artists in a series of solo shows.

Our Friends held their own exhibition in June, and our Members and Associates also exhibited, in a show you can still catch until the 23 December.
