As the Gallery gets a quick lick of paint and other essential maintenance, have a look at what’s coming up this month. We are closed this week, but reopen on Sunday 6 May, so visit us soon.
With a major new Prize Exhibition featuring work by contemporary artists from across the UK and a host of solo shows, demonstrations and our craft exhibition Cornucopia, there’s something for everyone in May. Here are some of the highlights…
10 May – 23 June
Modern Britain is very much on show at our Prize Exhibition, which features renowned artists from across the UK. With a range of awards to be won, and much of the work in the exhibition for sale, it’s a great opportunity to come and see some of the best contemporary artists today, working in a range of media.
You’ll find landscapes, social commentary, abstract works, textile art, sculpture, still life, portraiture and prints… why not spend a day out one weekend, or even a quick trip in your lunch hour viewing art?
Remember, our Gallery staff are happy to help if you would like to make a purchase. Visit soon!
May 9, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
We are very proud to present an evening with Andrew Logan on May 9 at RBSA Gallery.
Andrew’s appearance follows his highly successful mirrored mosaic sculpture exhibition The Art of Reflection at National Trust’s Buckland Abbey.
Andrew is one of Britain’s leading sculptural artists. His work is often inspired by the natural world, by mythology, astronomy and travel.
This event is part of the RBSA Friends programme, however, it is open to all. £12 for Visitors, £7 for Members, Associates, and Friends. Book now by calling or e-mailing the RBSA Gallery on 0121 236 4353 email: firstname.lastname@example.org
until 26 May
Looking for a birthday present or a gift for a friend? Come and see this varied display of jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. Each item is hand-made by a designer-maker who has taken inspiration from the colours, forms, and subjects found throughout flora and fauna. With such a cornucopia of craft to select from we are sure to have something to suit all tastes and budgets.
Our Saturday demonstrations continue with some of the many solo artists on show this month – you can see Hazel Astling on 12 May, Carole Baker on 19 May, and Gabrielle Roberts-Dalton on 20 May.
Drop in between 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. No booking required.
Eric Gaskell ARBSA
7 May – 16 June
Eric combines colour, drawing, and composition to create vibrant and bold lino-cut prints and mixed-media pieces. He is a newly-elected Associate Member of the RBSA.
Making a Mark
7 May – 16 June
Carole responds instinctively to capture the movement, liveliness, and mystery of the places she visits, as in ‘Glimmer’, above. She explores the effect of light on the landscape in this new solo show.
Surrounded by Sea
until 9 June
Jasmina finds inspiration in nature and marine subjects. The shapes of seedpods, shells and other underwater creatures have influenced her vessel forms. The rhythmic gradation of the beach from sand to gravel also provides inspiration for texture, colour and the surface quality of her work.
until 5 May
This solo show features the striking prints of RBSA Member David White. Explore David’s abstract mixed-media paintings and linocut prints. This collection combines outdoor Cornish harbour views with imaginary artist-studio interiors, creating intriguing scenes that question the viewer’s sense of viewpoint.
until 5 May
Chris Salmon is well-known for creating quirky characters that amuse and intrigue. This selection of prints, drawings, and paintings includes new work alongside old favourites.
Entry to all RBSA exhibitions is free and many of the works on show are on sale. We recommend viewing in person before making a purchase, but you can view many current exhibitions online, with prices, at our Flickr page.
We take a deposit or full payment at the gallery, and you can arrange to collect your work once the exhibition is over. If you can’t make it to an exhibition, call us on 0121 236 4353 or email email@example.com
Visit the RBSA soon and see what original art you could be taking home…
Remember that booking is not required for our Saturday demonstrations, so feel free to drop by the Gallery on the day. For more details on all the events listed, and to find out about everything else going on at the RBSA, please take a look at the website.
