Firstly, we must apologise for the lateness of this month’s round-up. There are still plenty of exciting upcoming events that you won’t want to miss, so carry on reading and visit us soon!
While the Prize Exhibition continues, the Gallery is also playing host to a variety of solo shows, a demonstration on the art of self-portraiture, and our craft exhibition Shape Up. And on 27 June we launch our annual Friends Exhibition. With so much to discover, here are some of the highlights…
Until 23 June
Our Prize Exhibition features renowned artists from across the UK and beyond. With a range of awards to be won, and much of the work in the exhibition for sale, it’s a great opportunity to come and see some of the best contemporary artists today, working in a range of media.
You’ll find landscapes, social commentary, abstract works, textile art, sculpture, still life, portraiture and prints… why not spend a day out one weekend, or even a quick trip in your lunch hour viewing art?
Remember, our Gallery staff are happy to help if you would like to make a purchase. Visit soon!
Join us at the Gallery for a demonstration by Gabrielle Roberts-Dalton, revealing the methods she undertakes to complete a self-portrait.
Gabrielle has a number of successes in her art career. These include winning the visitor’s vote in the 2014 Open Exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry, and being a finalist in the Artist & Illustrators Artist of the Year 2014 exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.
Storytelling, novels, and events in Gabrielle’s life are consistent influences on her paintings, resulting in work that expresses the vulnerable relationship between the world and the artist.
This is an open event, 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm and there’s no need to book. Everyone is welcome, and it’s a free demo… what more could you ask for!
Until 29 September
If you, like us at the RBSA gallery, have a love for innovative, bright and bold designs then Shape Up is the perfect craft show for you. Shape Up offers a range of exciting geometric designs in jewellery, ceramics, and textiles by our own selected designer-makers.
The featured designs start at just £7 making them affordable and the perfect original gift for others (or yourself!) No matter your taste or budget, Shape Up has something for everyone.
Menopause: A Change of Life
18 June – 4 August
Gabrielle produces self-portraits that explore different thoughts and ideas about the physical and emotional effects of the menopause. Her thought-provoking self-portraits are presented in oil, ink, and print.
18 June – 28 July
Geoff was a winner in last year’s Photographic Prize and this exhibition featuring the Duddeston Viaduct in Digbeth is his prize. Come and reflect on a forgotten corner of Birmingham in this thought-provoking show.
