The Society of Graphic Fine Art is exhibiting at the RBSA for the first time!

The RBSA is excited to be hosting the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA) for the first time this year! The exhibition will run from 3 May — 18 May.

Based in London, the SGFA is currently the only national society in the UK dedicated exclusively to drawing. In addition to black and white work and traditional drawing skills, the Society now also encourages the use of colour and non-figurative art.

The SGFA accepts artworks in a variety of media including inks, pastels, charcoal and conté, as well as paintings and prints which demonstrate evidence of skilled drawing by hand.

Many of the artworks on display in the RBSA exhibition are for sale. Enquiries are welcome and can be discussed at the ground floor desk of the Gallery.

About the SGFA

The SGFA was founded 100 years ago, in 1919, its purpose being to “proclaim the value of good draughtsmanship”. It championed realism and traditional drawing skills, during a time when the popularity of abstract painting threatened to marginalise all other art forms. The society endeavoured to ‘uphold and maintain the interests of all those forms of art that do not use colour as a form of expression’.

Today there are more than 130 elected members of the SGFA across the UK — professional artists from all areas of the art world.

The SGFA is celebrating its Centenary Year and this exhibition displays a wide spectrum of work, celebrating each artist’s individuality and freedom of expression. It will be shown across two floors of our Gallery space. There will also be a Celebratory Open Day on Friday 3 May – all welcome.
