November at the RBSA: Glyn Griffiths, Abstract Variations and more.

Three new exhibitions takeover the RBSA Gallery in November, starting with Love of Landscape – a retrospective by the late Glyn Griffiths. Alongside, is Abstract Variations, celebrating the variety of approaches and media found in abstract art. Rounding off the month is the annual Members and Associates exhibition.

Love of Landscape: The Art of Glyn Griffiths (1926 – 1999) – 4-16 November

Estuary Castle, Glyn Griffiths

A retrospective of paintings and drawings by the late Glyn Griffiths celebrating his love of landscape and the Welsh borders. A frequent exhibitor at the RBSA, his direct and expressive works capture the spirit of the changing seasons and the unique character of the border landscape. From 4 – 16 November, Love of Landscape offers an insight into the scope of his remarkable talent.

Join exhibition curator, Brendan Flynn, and Glyn’s family to celebrate the opening on 3 November at the RBSA Gallery 2.30pm – 4.30pm.

Abstract Variations – 4 – 16 November

Semi Circles, Steve Evans

Spanning many mediums and approaches, Abstract Variations brings together 8 artists to explore how ‘abstract art has helped us to experience the emotional power inherent in pure form’. Featuring work that draws inspiration from nature, music composition and architecture, this diverse exhibition highlights the fluidity of abstract art.

Meet the artists on 7 November 5-7pm at the celebratory opening and see the techniques live at the Watercolour and Printmaking Demo on 16 November 11am-1pm and 2-4pm.

Friends of the RBSA can enjoy a free guided tour of the exhibition with an informal Q&A from Abstract Variations artists on 10 November 10am-1pm (£5 for guests). Booking essential – call 0121 236 4353 to book your place.

RBSA Members and Associates – 21 November – 24 December

Over the Rooftops, Malcolm Brookes

For over 200 years, the diverse art practices of RBSA Members and Associates have been displayed in the annual exhibition. The Members and Associates Exhibition 2019 demonstrates the high standard of work produced by its Members and Associates. The launch event takes place on Thursday 21 November 6-8pm.

If you are a Member or Associate, you can enter work before 4pm on Wednesday 13 November by downloading an application pack here.

Events

David Harban is selling unframed prints from his Rugged Landscapes series of etchings on Saturday 2 November 11am-4pm. On the same day, you can also meet the Sculptura artists at their drop-in event from 2-4pm and discuss the exhibition.

Sexton Burrow, etching

Explore the craft selection with independent designer-makers at the RBSA Late Night Opening on 8 November 6-8pm. Find unique gifts, artworks and prints for sale.

Tealights, Timea Sido

Friends of the RBSA and guests are invited to the Friends Social on 21 November 4-6pm, a chance to network and find out about upcoming events. The evening continues with the Members and Associates exhibition Private View from 6-8pm. Find out how to become a Friend here.

Visit Us

Entry to all RBSA exhibitions is free and many of the works on show are for sale. We recommend viewing in person before making a purchase, but you can view many current exhibitions online, with prices, at our main website.

We take a deposit or full payment at the gallery, and you can arrange to collect your work once the exhibition is over. If you can’t make it to an exhibition, call us on 0121 236 4353 or email rbsagallery@rbsa.org.uk.
